Robust 3D scalar imaging condition for elastic RTM

چکیده
We propose an elastic scalar imaging condition that corrects for the polarity change; however, this imaging condition requires additional prior information which may not be known accurately, or may suffer from interference of waves propagating from opposite sides of a reflector. Using incorrect Pand S-mode velocities causes reflectors in migrated PP, PS, and SP images to be shifted from their true positions. We show that it is more reliable to estimate reflector normals from PS and SP images, computed using conventional imaging methods, instead of from PP images. We also demonstrate that the PS and SP images computed using our elastic imaging condition for waves propagating from opposite sides of a reflector have the same polarity, and therefore they can be stacked over experiments without canceling each other. This analysis, illustrated with numeric experiments, demonstrates the intrinsic robustness of our elastic scalar imaging condition.

ELASTIC WAVEFIELD MIGRATION AND TOMOGRAPHY by
Wavefield migration and tomography are well-developed under the acoustic assumption; however, multicomponent recorded seismic data include shear waves (S-modes) in addition to the compressional waves (P-modes). Constructing multicomponent wavefields and considering multiparameter model properties make it possible to utilize information provided by various wave modes, and this information allows...
متن کاملAn improvement in RTM method to image steep dip petroleum bearing structures and its superiority to other methods
In this paper, first the limitations of the ray-based method and the one-way wave-field extrapolation migration (WEM) in imaging steeply dipping structures are discussed by some examples. Then a new method of the reverse time migration (RTM), used in imaging such complex structures is presented. The proposed method uses a new wave-field extrapolator called the Leapfrog-Rapid Expansion Method (L...
متن کاملImaging condition for elastic RTM
Polarity changes in converted-wave images constructed by elastic reverse-time migration causes destructive interference after stacking over the experiments of a seismic survey. The polarity reversal is due to the fact that S-mode polarization changes as a function of direction, and therefore the imaged reflectivity reverses sign at normal incidence. We derive a simple imaging condition for conv...
متن کاملElastic wavefield imaging with scalar and vector potentials
We demonstrate reverse-time imaging using multicomponent elastic wavefields. The elastic data are used as boundary conditions for a numeric solution to the elastic wave-equation solved using a staggeredgrid finite-difference implementation. P and S components are not separated from recorded data, but are extrapolated together as part of a vector wavefield. A straightforward extension to the cro...
متن کاملElastic least-squares reverse time migration
Least-squares migration (LSM) can produce images with improved resolution and reduced migration artifacts. We propose a method for elastic least-squares reverse time migration (LSRTM) based on different types of imaging condition. Perturbation imaging condition leads to images for squared P and S velocity models; the displacement imaging condition crosscorrelates components of the source and re...
